this kind of leads credence to my theory that Enjolras doesn’t actually pay attention to specific people/their faces

like it took him a really long time to remember who Grantaire was consistently and part of that was due to the fact that he smells like booze all the time (making him easier to identify)

after a while he just quit trying to remember people and match the name to the face

he just calls everyone ‘citizen’

and when he’s trying to get a particular person’s attention he just yells out a description of what they’re wearing

so at the barricade, it goes like this:

“You in the grey hat and the purple jacket, go get those guns”

“Hey—hey, BLUE VEST, COME HERE”

“NO, NOT YOU”

“THE OTHER BLUE VEST”

“YEAH, WITH THE STRIPES.”
